pieces to play, and your own music.
You can pick several at once, or drop them anywhere on the page. They stay under Your songs until you remove them: in your account when you're signed in, otherwise in this browser. MusicXML gives the best notation; MIDI has none, so note lengths are rounded to sixteenths.
A photo, scan or PDF of printed music is sent to our server to be read, and the picture is deleted straight away. It can take up to a minute a page. A flat, sharp, well-lit page works best; handwriting can't be read, and the result may need checking against the original.
All the music is in the public domain. Most scores are the Mutopia Project's editions, most of them public domain too; Moonlight Sonata and Schumann's Album for the Young pieces are CC BY-SA 2.5, K. 545, Bach's Invention No. 1 and Little Prelude BWV 939 and Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 CC BY-SA 3.0, Gnossienne No. 1 and Grieg's Album Leaf CC BY-SA 4.0, and the Mazurka, the Venetian Boat Song and Consolation No. 3 CC BY 3.0. The Polonaise (CC BY-SA 4.0) and the Foster song are from the music21 corpus, and Farewell's melody as given on Wikipedia. The Foster song, Farewell and the beginner tunes are arranged here for two hands. Full credits on the credits page.
